THE TALK OF THE SEED INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW IS HEFTY BRAND 40 SERIES CORN.

No corn before has ever been recommended for planting into 40-degree soils. As harvest is rolling across much of the country, the yield and performance data tells the story.

Planting early works and the best way to do it is with 40 Series Corn.

THE BASICS

  • Plant 40 Series Corn after the first crop insurance date for your area.
  • Plant it in dry soils.
  • You don’t need to wait for 50-degree or 60-degree soil temperatures. Corn germinates at around 40 degrees.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • We pick hybrids with excellent early vigor and emergence scores.
  • We use Hefty Complete Corn Seed Treatment, which has been shown to speed emergence by up to 20%!
  • Only the highest germination seed makes 40 Series qualifications.
  • We also run cold germination tests to find the best cold tolerance seed lots for 40 Series Corn.

WHAT IS A COLD GERMINATION TEST?

One of the least talked about things with Hefty Brand 40 Series Corn is that in addition to finding seed with the best warm germination scores, we run one more type of germination test that is not required of seed companies: THE COLD GERMINATION TEST.

Warm germination tests are run at 77 degrees, which does a nice job of telling you if any of the seed is dead, but it doesn’t really give a good indication of how that seed will tolerate cold soil temperatures. Cold germination tests are run at 50 degrees for a week before being moved to warmer conditions. This has been very indicative of success in harsh, early-season planting conditions.

A high score in both warm and cold germination tests is needed for seed to qualify for 40 Series status.

WHY WAIT?

If you want to plant corn earlier with confidence, have it emerge faster, and achieve great yields, plant Hefty Brand 40 Series Corn on your farm this upcoming season.
