I can’t go anywhere without someone talking to me about Hefty Brand 40 Series Corn! It’s been working so well in the field, and not to toot our own horn, but it’s been taking the industry by storm! Here’s the good thing for you whether you’ve planted 40 Series Corn yet or not – every other seed company out there is taking notice of this and realizing that telling growers, “NO, YOU CAN’T PLANT YET!” is just not acceptable when the soil conditions are fit and the first date for crop insurance has passed.

FINISHING SOONER

Everyone looks at this just a little differently, but something my brother said to me really hit home. The way he looks at it, it’s not about the first few days of planting. It’s actually about the last few days of planting. Crop insurance backs corn planted after April 10th in our area.

40 Series Corn allows us to get started planting corn as soon as the soil conditions are fit (dry) after that point. Our highest yields generally come on corn planted in April. There are almost always rainy days that knock us out of the field and then several days or more are spent waiting for the soil to dry so it’s fit to plant again. We’d like to be all done planting corn (for grain) and soybeans by May 5th, ideally. The key here is if we don’t get started early – before the soil is 50 degrees – we usually won’t get done on time. Those four or five days where we can plant 40 Series Corn while all the other seed companies are saying to wait on their corn completely replace the four or five days when everyone else will be planting the 15th, 20th, or 25th of May.

We can argue about losing yield potential and if that starts May 1st, May 5th, or May 10th. There’s really no arguing that planting May 20th or 25th has a huge disadvantage versus the corn planted April 20th or 25th. 40 Series Corn helps you FINISH planting earlier, which adds yield to your total farm performance. Finishing planting earlier also allows you to plant the next crop and spray more timely, which adds yield and net income.

THE KEYS TO 40 SERIES CORN SUCCESS

40 SERIES CORN IS DIFFERENT

IT HAS HEFTY COMPLETE CORN SEED TREATMENT.

This is the industry’s leading treatment, and it’s not even close. With 37 components to help your crop jump out of the ground and never look back, we often see faster emergence by up to 20% versus standard treatments.

IT HAS A HIGH COLD GERMINATION SCORE.

Seed companies are required to test seed for warm germination at 77 degrees and put that on their bag tags. At Hefty’s, we also test corn with a cold germination check and only release the absolute best seed in our 40 Series Corn. You’ll notice the difference in your stands and your yields!

IT HAS GREAT GENETICS WITH EXCELLENT EARLY VIGOR.

We select corn hybrids based on yield and performance, and one of the key characteristics we look for is strong early vigor in cold soils.

AS WE ALWAYS SAY WITH 40 SERIES CORN:

1. PLANT IT FIRST ON YOUR FARM.

2. PLANT IT WHEN SOILS ARE DRY.

3. PLANT IT EVEN IF THE FORECAST TEMPS LOOK BAD AND WHEN OTHER SEED COMPANIES SAY IT’S TOO COLD TO PLANT.

4. PLANT HEFTY BRAND 40 SERIES CORN... WITH CONFIDENCE!
