HAVING MORE MODES OF ACTION IS A GOOD THING. This often leads to better control on a wider range of diseases, and it also helps reduce your risk of resistance building with any individual mode of action. Look for seed treatments with three or four modes of action. Check with your supplier to see if they are running full or partial rates on each of the fungicides they use. Higher rates can provide better protection from diseases, more support for early planting, and potentially longer-lasting effects into the season.

MOST SOYBEAN SEED TREATMENTS HAVE AN INSECTICIDE COMPONENT FROM THE NEONICOTINOID FAMILY. Watch for the active ingredients clothianidin, imidacloprid, or thiamethoxam. While there are slight differences between them, they are all good. The rate range on each of them is wide, however, so talk with your supplier to see if they’re running the higher rate or the lower rate. Lower rates are often a little less sticky, but you give up some of the control of insects, especially further into the season.
