Herbicide Price Decreases But Weed Increases

LETTING A FEW WEEDS GO TO SEED THIS YEAR LIKELY MEANS FIVE YEARS OF FIGHTING WEEDY FIELDS COMING UP.

With all the flooding, prevent plant, delayed or skipped applications due to wet weather, and weed resistance issues, many of us are likely facing a weedy future.

HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS.

AG CHEMICAL PRICES ARE DOWN, AND MANY WILL BE AT ALL-TIME LOWS! This list likely includes Liberty (and generics), clethodim, metribuzin, Valor (and generics), Spartan (and generics), and many more. If you are looking for good deals on ag chem, the 2025 season will be one of your favorites.

HOWEVER…

WILL PRICES REMAIN CHEAP COME SPRING? I had a grandpa who retired “young” from farming at age 56 and became a banker. He was always talking about risk management, and one of the biggest things to consider is upside versus downside risk. What’s your downside risk when buying anything at an all-time low price? Not much. On the other hand, just in the last three years we’ve seen many of these same herbicides at 2X, 3X, and even 4X today’s price. My point is simply this – while you might still see all these products at low prices come spring, why risk it?

We have price protection on anything you buy right now (other than generic glyphosate or 2,4-D), so our advice is to buy sooner rather than later, at least on products that are at or near all-time lows.

FILL PROGRAMS

MANY AG CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS PRODUCE YEAR-ROUND. Instead of paying for storage at terminals, like many companies used to, they incentivize retailers to take product early. If we can get something into our sheds or tanks in September, it’s at a better price due to the fill program, but also due to early cash discounts. We pass both of these on to you, which is why we’ve had fill programs and early pay programs for you for many years now.

Roughly 10% of our customers take advantage of our September 20 prepay date, either by sending in money by September 20 or by saving even more by picking up product that early.
